About

Health Professionals Housing is a purpose-built accommodation initiative designed to support healthcare delivery in the Campbell River and North Island region.

Located near the Campbell River Hospital, this project provides flexible housing options for health professionals who are:

  • Modern multi-story building with orange accents, blue sky, and trees in the background.

    Supporting the region on a short-term basis (e.g., locum physicians, agency nurses, visiting specialists, and allied health professionals during temporary appointments)

  • Relocating to the community
  • Transitioning into permanent roles
  • Establishing longer-term practice or employment in the North Island (with accommodation available for up to 24 months)
  • Students in healthcare-related programs completing placements or training in the region

Accommodation is designed to support both short-term assignments and longer-term relocation needs. By reducing housing barriers, this initiative strengthens recruitment, retention, and continuity of care for residents across the region.

Why This Matters

The Campbell River Hospital serves 32 communities across North Vancouver Island and the surrounding coastal areas. Access to stable, reliable accommodation is a key factor in attracting and retaining qualified healthcare professionals.

How It Supports the Region

This initiative complements broader regional efforts to improve healthcare access by:

  • Providing immediate housing solutions for urgent recruitment needs
  • Supporting visiting specialists and temporary coverage
  • Offering transitional housing for new recruits and their families
  • Reducing the financial and logistical burden of relocation

The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is committed to supporting sustainable healthcare services across the region, and this project represents a practical step toward that goal.

Accommodations

Features

The development includes 20 all-inclusive suites designed to support both short-term and longer-term stays for health professionals.

A range of private, fully equipped suite types is available, including options suitable for families:

  • Studio units 
  • One-bedroom, one-bathroom units 
  • Two-bedroom, one-bathroom units 
  • Two-bedroom, two-bathroom units

  • Short-term furnished accommodations for stays of up to three months 
  • Long-term accommodations for stays of up to two years

  • Secure, independent entrance 

The housing operates separately from the Just Like Home Lodge, ensuring privacy and independent access for health professionals.

Long-Term Accommodations

Long-term suites are partially furnished and available for stays of up to two years. Large furniture, including beds, couches, tables and televisions, is provided, along with window coverings and major appliances.

All rates are all-inclusive and cover high-speed internet, a premium cable package, hydro and utilities. Rates are subject to change, and the rates offered at the time of booking or tenancy may differ from those shown on this page.
