Menzies Bay Area Zoning – Short-Term Rentals Community Survey
Short-Term Rentals (STRs), also called “vacation rentals,” are an offer of accommodation to the travelling public, in exchange for a fee, for less than 90 consecutive days. This land use is often facilitated by apps such as AirBnB or VRBO. STRs have historically been treated as commercial land use. In accordance with new legislation (Short-Term Rental Accommodation Act), Menzies Bay Area residents now have an opportunity to amend your zoning bylaw to align with provincial regulations. Looking to the future, how should STRs be regulated in the Menzies Bay area, if at all?
How do we regulate Short-Term Rentals while balancing the needs of all community members? Fill out this short survey to make sure your voice is heard and consider the following information as it relates to short-term rentals:
- Short-Term Rentals reduce the number of long-term rental units available, therefore limiting the rental housing supply and often contributing to the increasing cost of rental housing.
- Short-Term Rentals provide flexible housing options for part time residents.
- Short-Term Rentals in commercial areas can increase competition with hotel style accommodation.
- Short-Term Rentals provide income to the property owners.
- Building new Short-Term Rentals can increase the overall housing supply.
