Extreme Temperature Resiliency Session
Public Invitation To North Island Virtual Sessions – Enhancing Rural Community Resiliency To Extreme Temperature Events
In partnership with the Regional District of Mt. Waddington, Comox Valley Emergency Program and United Way BC, the Strathcona Regional District would like to invite you to attend a round table workshop focused on grassroots Hope and Empowerment. The workshops will take place on Monday January 23rd from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm and on Thursday January 26th from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. The theme of this workshop is enhancing extreme temperature resilience in rural North Vancouver Island communities and both workshops will follow the same agenda.
Already this winter, we experienced daily minimum temperature records set from the southern tip of Vancouver Island to the northeastern corner of the province and many spots in between. There were many cold weather records broken across British Columbia.
Join Us & Hear More About:
- Support provided by emergency program’s during extreme temperature events
- How United Way supports grassroot organizations
- Guest speakers from rural communities
- Roundtable Discussion & Relationship Building – An opportunity for attendees to share projects they’re working on or are aware of in their community as well as hopes/dreams they would like to see their community achieve.
While rural communities tend to have fewer financial, human and formal institutional resources with which to respond to these changes, they have access to important assets that support resilience and adaptation from which they can draw, such as strong informal economies, social networks and connections to place, community and culture.
Grassroots organizations have a distinct and critical role in advancing social change, specifically in the area of community resilience to climate change.
We hope you can join us.
