BYLAW NO. 574 – DESOLATION SOUND RURAL LAND USE BYLAW 1993, Amendment No. 11 (Bulk Water Regulation)

Start Time:   6:30 p.m.

Subject Area: All lands within Bylaw No. 1460 Desolation Sound Rural Land Use Bylaw (Map 1).

Purpose: To propose land use bylaw amendments to regulate the processing, bottling, or sale of bulk water. The bylaw proposes prohibiting bulk water processing, bottling and sales but specifically excludes receipt of water by parcels of land where supplemental water is required to enable private domestic, agricultural, commercial or industrial consumption as permitted.


BYLAW NO. 577 DESOLATION SOUND RURAL LAND USE BYLAW 1993, Amendment No. 12 (Short-Term Rentals)

Start Time:   Immediately following Public Hearing for Bylaw No. 574.

Subject Area: All lands within Bylaw No. 1460 Desolation Sound Rural Land Use Bylaw (Map 1).

Purpose: To propose land use bylaw amendments to regulate Short-Term Rentals (STRs) in response to Bill 35, the Short-Term Rentals Accommodations Act, 2023. The bylaw proposes allowing STRs in all land use designations accessory to residential use.

Copies of the proposed bylaws and related information are available for inspection at the Strathcona Regional District (SRD) Customer Service Centre, located at 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday excluding statutory holidays, until 12:00 noon on Thursday November 14th, 2024. The bylaws and associated staff reports may also be viewed on the SRD website at www.srd.ca.

The public hearings for Bylaw No. 574 and 577 will be chaired by the Director of Electoral Area C, representing the SRD Board. Anyone who believes their interests are affected by the proposed bylaw amendments will be given an opportunity to be heard at the public hearings. Persons unable to attend the hearings can submit signed written submissions to form part of the public hearing record provided submissions are delivered via post, by hand to the SRD Community Services Desk or electronically to planning@srd.ca no later than 12:00 noon on November 14th, 2024. Submissions that do not meet the above requirements or are made after the close of the public hearings cannot be considered.
