About Building Permits
Building permits are required for any new construction, alteration, addition or demolition of a structure in all SRD areas. Homeowners or builders should complete the appropriate permit application. Once a building permit application has been accepted, it goes through the stages of review before it is ready to be issued. The reviews typically include addressing, planning, zoning and building code compliance.
The building regulation area only includes Electoral Area D.
Electoral Areas A, B and C do not require building permits.
Building Permit Application
To obtain a Building Permit, all owners must complete the application process first. Please review the guide for more information before you fill out the online application.
If you are planning new construction or a renovation, whether a residence or an accessory building on your property, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to ensure all planning and construction conforms to the SRD Bylaws and the province of British Columbia’s Building Code, 2012 edition.
