The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and reviewing its essential services and decision-making processes to ensure business continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic. As an essential service provider, the SRD must continue to operate and maintain service delivery that is crucial to the well-being of residents.
Significant effort has been put into planning and preparedness for water and wastewater service delivery, and solid waste management. The SRD is taking this situation very seriously and are doing everything possible to respond to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic in a safe, measured and concerted manner.
The following is an update to the current services provide by SRD.
Quathiaski Cove Sewer: All Quathiaski Cover Sewer operations and legislative testing will continue as usual and a business contingency plan is in place if needed.
Water (Electoral Area D): All testing and operations are continuing as per usual with no concerns as to water quality or delivery.
Waste Services: (Electoral Area A & B): SRD waste services continue as usual; however we are encouraging limiting your trips to the landfill. Zeballos landfill isn’t collecting cash but keeping a tab for residents bringing garbage to the facility. Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) – Facilities are open but encouraging social distancing and the limiting of trips to the landfill, if absolutely necessary. Landfill is not accepting cash at this time and the Return-It depot in Campbell River is closed.
SAYWARD Clean Up Days Event – April 18th & 19th cancelled. Updates to the Sayward cleanup day event will be posted once a decision is made by Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM).
SRD will continue monitoring the status of the COVID-19 pandemic and taking appropriate precautions. The health and safety of our residents, staff and the provision of our essential services remain our primary focus.
