SRD Begins Installation Phase of Universal Water Metering Project in Northern Area D

The project will feature the installation of Kamstrup radio-read meters, with work expected to be completed within 10 to 12 months.

Campbell River, BC – The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is announcing the launch of the Northern Area D Universal Water Metering Project Installations. The contract has been awarded to Edgett Excavation Ltd., with funding provided through a $2.8 million provincial grant. This project will bring radio-read water meters to 852 currently unmetered connections in the area, supporting SRD’s commitment to water conservation and efficient water management.

The universal water metering system will empower residents by providing real-time insights into their water consumption. With billing directly tied to usage, homeowners can make informed choices to manage their water use effectively, potentially reducing costs. Additionally, the collected data will enable SRD to identify leaks within the water distribution system, ensuring the long-term sustainability and reliability of this critical service.

“Universal metering has proven to be an effective tool for conservation, significantly reducing water demand in neighbouring service areas and setting a strong example for sustainable water management,” said Mark Baker, Chair of the Strathcona Regional District Board.

The project will feature the installation of Kamstrup radio-read meters, with work expected to be completed within 10 to 12 months. Future phases are planned to address the remaining unmetered properties in the area. The installation costs will be fully covered by the provincial grant, ensuring no direct financial impact on residents participating in the program.

This milestone reflects SRD’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public infrastructure, supporting environmental responsibility, and investing in projects that promote community well-being.
