SRD BOARD ELECTS CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR

The SRD Board of Directors held its inaugural meeting virtually yesterday November 4, 2020 where they elected a Chair and Vice-Chair for the 2020/2021 year by means of an electronic ballot.

Campbell River, B.C. – The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) Board of Directors held its inaugural meeting virtually yesterday November 4, 2020 where they elected a Chair and Vice-Chair for the 2020/2021 year by means of an electronic ballot.

Director Brad Unger, Mayor of Gold River formerly the SRD Board Vice-Chair was unanimously elected by acclamation to Board Chair.  As Chair of the Board it will be his responsibility to act as the Chief Executive Officer for the Regional District including the management of meetings of the Regional District Board.  “It is an honour to be elected by my colleagues to lead the SRD Board and I appreciate the opportunity to advance our strategic initiatives and raise the profile of this organization within our region,” said Brad Unger, SRD Board Chair.

Director Claire Moglove, Campbell River City Councillor was elected as Vice-Chair.  The role of the Vice-Chair is to assist the Chair in fulfilling his duties and to exercise the powers of the Chair during the absence, illness or other disability of the Chair.  “I see my role as hopefully being a sounding board to the Chair if issues arise and to work collaboratively with the Chair and our CAO to move and advance the Board’s strategic priorities,” said SRD Claire Moglove, SRD Vice-Chair.  “I’m a big advocate of good governance and look forward to helping in that regard as well.”

The SRD has a Board of 13 directors comprising of four electoral area directors who are elected directly by rural area voters and serve four-year terms, and nine municipal directors who are first elected to a municipal council by municipal voters and are then appointed by council to the Regional District board for a maximum term of four years at discretion of their councils.

Provincial legislation requires regional districts to annually elect a Chair and a Vice-Chair at the first meeting of the Board after November 1st.
