First Nations

The Strathcona Regional District respectfully acknowledges that our corporate office and Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex are located on the traditional unceded territory of the Ligʷiłdax̌ʷ people.

It is also recognized that the SRD operates within the traditional, treaty and unceded territories of the Ehattesaht / Chinehkint, Homalco, Ka:'yu:'k't'h' / Che: k'tles7et'h’, Klahoose, K’ómoks, Kwiakah, Mowachaht / Muchalaht, Nuchatlaht, Tla’amin, Tlowitsis, We Wai Kai and Wei Wai Kum First Nations.

The Strathcona Regional District is committed to building strong, respectful relationships with local First Nations, grounded in the principles of collaboration, recognition, and shared stewardship.

Guided by the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the Regional District strives to support Indigenous self-determination, meaningful engagement, and inclusive decision-making. Through ongoing partnership and dialogue, we aim to foster mutual understanding and advance initiatives that reflect the rights, priorities, and aspirations of Indigenous communities across the region.
