SRD – Regional Emergency Support Services Program Appreciates the Support of Volunteers and Local Businesses

SRD extends gratitude to volunteers and local businesses who played a key role in assisting the people temporarily displaced during the recent evacuations of 738 and 758 Island Highway South.

Campbell River, BC – The success of the regional Emergency Support Services (ESS) program depends on dedicated local businesses and organizations who are committed to supporting the community during an emergency or disaster. When any type of emergency occurs, the Strathcona Regional District, through the volunteer ESS program, provides food, accommodation, and incidentals for up to 72 hours to people who have been displaced from their residence. In order for this to happen, the ESS program relies heavily on established suppliers within the community.

The Strathcona Regional District extends gratitude to the following local businesses who played a key role in assisting the people temporarily displaced during the recent evacuations of 738 and 758 Island Highway South:

  • Above Tide Motel
  • Anchor Inn
  • Coast Discovery Inn
  • Passage View Motel
  • Popsey’s Restaurant
  • Real Canadian Superstore

“This thank you list is not exhaustive” stated SRD Protective Services Coordinator, Shaun Koopman. “The list only covers the local businesses who served as ESS Suppliers during this particular event. There are a number of other local businesses who have Supplier Agreements with our Emergency Support Services program, but the displaced residents did not require their services during this event. Also, the importance of the Campbell River Baptist Church and their compassion and commitment to our ESS program cannot be overstated”.

Throughout this event, 30 volunteers from Emergency Support Services and the Salvation Army contributed over 200 hours of volunteer time.
