The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is proud to be hosting the 3rd annual Disaster Preparedness Tradeshow on Friday October 18th at the Thunderbird Hall.
This Tradeshow is free to the public and a fun way for families to learn how to be more prepared for a disaster. “We all hope that disasters don’t occur but being prepared for any disaster, will minimize the impact to families and our Region” says SRD Chair Michele Babchuk. “There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions and connect with a variety of different organizations involved in disaster preparedness and response such as Campbell River Emergency Support Services, SuavAir, Cortes Community Radio, and Western Canada Marine Spill Response”.
“Are you interested to learn how to send emails without access to the internet or WIFI?” asks Matt Fox, Packet Leader, SRD Emergency Communications Team. “If you enjoy exploring beyond the range of cellphone reception then you will want to visit the Emergency Communications booth.”
Residents can get more informed on the supplies needed for disaster preparedness and even get their Christmas shopping done early through vendors such as Coast Emergency Supply and S.O.S Gear. “What better way to tell your friends and family you care about them than by giving them the gift of preparedness” says Shaun Koopman, SRD Protective Services Coordinator.”
In addition to vendors and networking, this year’s Disaster Preparedness Tradeshow will also feature four free special education sessions:
3:15 – 3:45 pm Establishing your Neighbourhood Emergency Program
4:00 – 4:30 pm Emergency Drone Operations
4:45 – 5:30 pm Pet First Aid
5:45 – 6:15 pm Live Fire Extinguisher Training
