Safety & Accessibility

Accessibility ensures that everyone—regardless of age, ability, or mobility—can enjoy and participate in activities at a Strathcona Gardens. We strive to maintain a welcoming environment where community members feel included and supported. Accessible features in our facility improve safety, comfort, and independence for all visitors. Pool Accessibility Aids

  • A caregiver or aid can join anyone with a disability free of charge.
  • With assistance from your caregiver, we lend out portable lifts that can be used in two of the universal change rooms, in the men’s or women’s change rooms and at the hot tub. Please see our front desk to sign one out. 
  • Two aquatic beds to transport from change rooms to leisure pool (zero depth entry).
  • Four aquatic wheelchairs.
  • One shower chair.
  • A selection of walkers.
  • A chair lift allows patrons to safely transfer from wheelchair to pool lift, then comfortably lower into the main pool.

Arena Accessibility Aids

  • The Arena 1 lobby contains an elevator for patrons that provides access to the top of the seating area, the fitness studio, and Dogwood Room. A key can be signed out at our front desk.
  • Blue skating aids with handles for beginners or people who need support while skating.
  • Clean wheelchairs or strollers are welcome on the ice during our public skating programs. Helmets are strongly recommended. 
  • Wheelchair accessible viewing platforms in Arena 1 lobby and Arena 2 hallway. 

Accessibility for Families

Visiting our facility with your children? Let us make recreation a little easier for you:

  • One child ages 0-6 receives free admission with a paying adult or senior. Additional children ages 0-6 are $2.
  • Universal change rooms so families of all types and genders can be together.
  • Forgot your swim diaper? See our front desk for assistance.
  • We have floaties for infants under 20lbs, 3 sizes of life jackets for children who are 20-90lbs, and adult sizes from XXS to XXL.
  • Baby change tables and toddler chairs in the Universal, Womens, and Mens change rooms.
  • Benches along our leisure ice to help your children get their skates on.
  • Strollers are welcome on the arena ice surface, but not on the pool deck.
  • We have large blue skating aids for toddlers and young children who need assistance on the ice.
