Sayward Valley Private Water Sources Available for Firefighting Survey

The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) was the successful recipient of grant funding for wildfire risk reduction activities through the UBCM Community Resiliency Investment – FireSmart Community Funding & Supports. Part of this funding is being used to conduct a community water system assessment for the Sayward Valley. This assessment will analyze available water sources to be used for firefighting (structural and wildland).

As part of this process, we are seeking responses as to what private water sources may be available for emergency fire department use in the Sayward Valley.

If you are a property owner, please submit your response by June 7th, 2024:

  • Online – See Survey Below
  • In person – Strathcona Regional District Corporate office, 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, BC
  • E-mailaegisriskmanagementltd@gmail.com

Aegis Risk Management Ltd. is the contractor who is performing the assessment.
Private water sources can include swimming pools, ponds, and fixed water storage tanks. For a water source to be adequate for firefighting, it must be at least 1,000 gallons (approximately 3,700 litres). For reference, a 10-foot round above ground pool that is 3 feet deep is 1,750 gallons (approximately 6,600 litres).

If you have any questions about whether your water source would be adequate, please contact Aegis Risk Management Ltd. A site visit may be arranged at your convenience, to assess the water source and its suitability for firefighting. If your water source is deemed sufficient for firefighting, a formal agreement would be completed prior to authorizing its use for firefighting.
