SRD Launches Active Transportation Network Plan for Electoral Area C
Active Transportation Network Plan (ATNP) for Electoral Area C is aimed at enhancing transportation options for residents through walking, cycling, and wheeling.
Campbell River, BC – The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is excited to announce the development of an Active Transportation Network Plan (ATNP) for Electoral Area C, aimed at enhancing transportation options for residents through walking, cycling, and wheeling. This initiative is supported by funding from the Province of BC’s Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program, which aligns with the CleanBC commitment to increase alternative transportation solutions.
The ATNP will serve as a comprehensive roadmap for improving Electoral Area C active transportation conditions across Quadra Island and its connections to outer communities and beyond. The plan will be developed in collaboration with community members to identify priority improvements that enhance safety, connectivity, and accessibility for people of all ages and abilities, including those with disabilities.
“Developing an Active Transportation Network Plan is an important step towards creating a safe, accessible, and environmentally friendly transportation network for Area C community members,” said Aniko Nelson, Senior Manager of Community Services. “Residents are encouraged to participate in future engagement opportunities and share their views on active transportation priorities for the area.”
The ATNP will be the first comprehensive active transportation plan for Electoral Area C, building on direction established in the 2007 Quadra Island OCP and associated Quathiaski Cove Village Plan. Priority projects identified in the ATNP will also help inform the development of a future Master Transportation Plan and update to the Official Community Plan. The ATNP will also guide public investment in active transportation infrastructure throughout Electoral Area C, enhancing access to key destinations such as parks, schools, services and amenities, and neighbouring communities.
To ensure the ATNP reflects the community’s vision, SRD invites residents to get involved in the following ways:
- Complete an online or paper survey which will be available starting October 15th and closes November 15, 2024;
- Attend an in-person or virtual engagement session on October 29, 2024;
- Share your thoughts via email to planning@srd.ca.
