Strathcona Gardens – Planning to Gradually Restart Some Services As Soon As Possible

Strathcona Gardens staff continue to monitor the information and guidelines provided by the Province Health Officer and other authorities to develop plans to reopen the recreation complex in a manner that ensures the health and safety of staff and the public.

Campbell River, BC – Strathcona Gardens staff continue to monitor the information and guidelines provided by the Province Health Officer and other authorities to develop plans to reopen the recreation complex in a manner that ensures the health and safety of staff and the public.

“We recognize that Strathcona Gardens services and programs are important and, in some cases, critical to the health and wellness of our community,” says Andy Adams, Strathcona Gardens Commission Chair.  “Staff are currently working on plans to gradually restart some services as soon as possible.  The Commission has provided direction in principle to support the opening of one ice surface, the Rod Brind’Amour arena, when all parameters to support the operation have been put in place.  The aquatic amenities will be considered later this summer for a possible fall opening, with the caveat that if any additional information comes forward, we can reassess those decisions.”

“Although the timeline for a gradual opening has not been finalized, we are committed to keeping the community informed with the unique opportunities that Strathcona Gardens will provide during this unprecedented time.”

When Strathcona Gardens reopens, participation will look different. The number of people in facilities will be controlled and monitored through a registration or booking system to maintain physical distancing and adequate cleaning protocols. Walk-ins will not be permitted. It will be a gradual process of reopening and it will take time to implement these new protocols to ensure the health and safety of the public and staff, which remains the number one priority. Safety plans will be posted for the public with the reopening of services and programs. More information will be made available as specific plans for re-opening are announced; your continued patience is appreciated.

Under the guidelines, any user group utilizing or booking the facility will be required to have a COVID-19 Exposure Control Plan that clearly demonstrates how activities will be provided to align with the directives of the Provincial Health Officer, local authorities and other regulators (i.e. WorkSafeBC).

Due to new regulations which limit group sizes, drop-in attendance and enhanced safety protocols, staff at Strathcona Gardens have suspended membership passes and users can choose to apply a credit to their accounts. The credit may be used toward the purchase of program registrations, and/or facility bookings, once programs and services resume operation.
