Area C Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) Re-Launch
The ICSP will establish the long-term vision and goals for the future of Area C serving as the compass or north star for decision-making and to support the future development of more detailed planning documents.
The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is pleased to announce the re-launch and refresh of the process to develop an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan for Area C, Discovery Islands & Mainland Inlets!
The ICSP will establish the long-term vision and goals for the future of Area C serving as the compass or north star for decision-making and to support the future development of more detailed planning documents, such as Official Community Plans and zoning bylaws. The ICSP process will also help the SRD identify and articulate the priority projects, policies, plans and programs that should be implemented to move towards the vision and goals.
Let’s move forward and start the refresh process together!
What’s new?
- New consultants – WCS Engagement + Planning (formerly Whistler Centre for Sustainability) will work with the SRD to complete the project. They have extensive planning and engagement experience, including developing many ICSPs for communities in BC, Alberta, and the Yukon.
- New Task Force –The ICSP project team will engage a diverse group of Area residents who are passionate and collaborative – and who have the time between now and December to help get the project across the finish line. This group will work with staff and WCS through a series of meetings to draft the ICSP content, bringing their knowledge of the region to the task. The project team will work to ensure the group of 14-16 members represents the diversity of Area C as much as possible – and that they have a broad perspective and the best interests of the entire region in mind.If you would like to join the task force, please email the SRD planning department by August 24th: planning@srd.ca.
- New public engagement approach – Once the ICSP project team has worked closely with the task force to develop the draft plan, a summary of the plan along with a feedback form to capture public input will be released. It is anticipated that this will occur mid- to late-November, so please stay tuned.
What’s not new?
- What you’ve already told us. The project team is not starting from scratch. The input provided in the previous phase of the project has been used to inform this refreshed approach and will also inform the development of the draft plan. The time and input community members have provided are valuable and the project team hopes this will continue and residents will engage in this next phase.
- Recognition that Area C is remote and unique. Community input received during the previous phase made this very clear. The SRD understands and will continue to ensure this perspective remains at the forefront of the planning process, while also ensuring that a cohesive and unifying plan for our shared region is created.
