Notice of Waiver of Public Hearings Opportunity for Input

Notice is hereby given under Sections 464(2) and 467 of the Local Government Act that the SRD has waived the holding of a public hearing in relation to Zoning Amendment Bylaw Nos. 495 and 496.

Notice is hereby given under Sections 464(2) and 467 of the Local Government Act that the Strathcona Regional District has waived the holding of a public hearing in relation to Zoning Amendment Bylaw Nos. 495 and 496, which were given 1st and 2nd Reading on April 26, 2023. The SRD provides notice of the waiving of the public hearings and its intent to consider 3rd Reading and final adoption of Bylaw Nos. 495 and 496 during a regular meeting of the SRD Board.

Area affected by proposed Bylaw Nos 495 and 496: These bylaws apply to that portion of the Strathcona Regional District included within Electoral Area D (Oyster Bay – Buttle Lake).

Purpose of proposed Bylaw 495: The bylaw, if adopted, would amend the General Provisions section of the bylaw to permit the keeping of up to four small fowl or poultry, including chickens and ducks, but excluding roosters, in all upland zones.

Purpose of proposed Bylaw 496: The bylaw, if adopted, would amend the bylaw’s General Regulations section to increase the permitted maximum height of principal buildings to 10.0 metres (32.8 feet) and that of accessory buildings to 7.0 metres (23 feet). The prohibition on two-storey accessory buildings will also be removed.

Copies of the proposed bylaws and related information are available for inspection at the Strathcona Regional District Customer Service Centre, located at #102 – 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, from May 3, 2023 until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Anyone who believes their interests are affected by the proposed bylaws will be given an opportunity to provide comments in the form of a written submission in advance of Board consideration of Third Reading. Written submissions must be delivered by hand or electronically to the Regional District office no later than 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in order to be considered by the SRD Board.
