Extreme Weather Shelter Extended in Campbell River

This shelter will continue to run nightly from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. until Tuesday January 4th, 2022.

Continued freezing temperatures over the next few days have prompted the City of Campbell River, Strathcona Regional District (SRD) and Campbell River Coalition to End Homelessness to extend the operations of an Extreme Weather Shelter at the Campbell River Community Centre located at 401 11th Avenue. This shelter will continue to run nightly from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. until Tuesday January 4th, 2022.

Funding for operating the Extreme Weather Shelter is made possible through Emergency Management British Columbia and the Strengthening Communities grant through the Union of BC Municipalities. Since this shelter was activated on December 24th we have seen an average of 30 people using this service each night. Access to this shelter could be the difference between life and death for those who are underhoused and for people experiencing homelessness during these freezing temperatures. Warm drinks, washroom facilities, snacks and cots are provided.

The shelter is staffed with the appropriate personnel to ensure all proper safety precautions are adhered to. We would like to thank the tremendous effort of all staff and volunteers who have taken time away from their families during the holiday season to support this emergency response.
