The SRD and the Sayward Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department would like to express our gratitude to Patricia (Pat) Rusch for her 20 years of service on the department.

The Strathcona Regional District and the Sayward Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department would like to express our gratitude to Patricia (Pat) Rusch for her 20 years of service on the department.

“Two decades of serving this community with courage, compassion, and a genuine love for what you do. You’ve given so much of yourself to this department, and we are honored to celebrate this milestone with you” said Fire Chief Frank Morgan, who added, “While I may be the Fire Chief, we all know Pat is the boss”.

Pat currently holds the role of Administrative Assistant but also leads the department’s First Responder program. She has been the foundation of the emergency response community of Sayward as a former Ambulance Unit Chief, Emergency Support Services Volunteer, Sayward Health Society Board member and current Red Cross Professional Responder Instructor Training. “Whether day or night, rain or shine, you’ll find Pat at one of the firehalls with her nose to the grindstone. I truly believe Pat is the example that we should all try to emulate” said SRD Manager of Emergency Services Shaun Koopman.

The Sayward Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department delivers fire protection, first responder and rescue services to the Regional District under Bylaw No. 588 to the Village and Sayward Valley residents. To learn more about the department please visit https://www.saywardfire.ca/
