NEWCASTLE CREEK WILDFIRE UPDATE – MAY 30/23 8:30PM

The wildfire is holding at 90ha and the forecast is calling for favorable weather conditions tonight and tomorrow.

Currently, there is no significant change to be shared. The wildfire is holding at 90ha and the forecast is calling for favorable weather conditions tonight and tomorrow. There will be 4 helicopters in action tomorrow and the Kelsey Log Sort will be utilized as a refueling station. Additional ground personnel will be assisting at the site as well.

The Village of Sayward is currently responding to a wildfire. Wildfires can destroy homes and wildlife habitats, increase pollution in the air reducing air quality, and can cause injuries, a variety of health concerns and fatalities.

  • A Regional EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) has been activated.
  • Coastal Fire Centre and BC Wildfire are aware and are providing resources.
  • This is NOT an evacuation alert.

This alert will remain in effect until the fire is contained.

Instructions
  • If you are not in the area, avoid the area.
  • Have a plan to check in on family, friends and vulnerable neighbours.
  • Keep all doors and windows closed.
  • Reduce time spent outdoors and avoid vigorous outdoor activities.
  • Follow the direction of local authorities.
  • Do not call 911 for information or updates.
