.

Category 1 fires (campfires) are now allowed in the following areas ONLY effective today – Wed. June 21, 2023:
• Cortes Island
• Marina Island
• Maurelle Island
• Raza Island
• Read Island
• Stuart Island

THE CAMPFIRE BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT IN ALL OTHER AREAS OF THE SRD!
The Coastal Fire Centre has rescinded the Category 1 Campfire prohibition for certain areas of the Coastal Fire Centre within the SRD that are located in the Sunshine Coast Natural Resource District.
BC Wildfire Service has stated that this change is being implemented due to cooler conditions and rainfall, which has reduced the fire danger rating in these areas. However, if conditions change, prohibitions may once again be enacted. The areas mentioned above reside under provincial legislation (BC Wildfire Act) because the SRD does not have a bylaw for these areas regarding the lighting of open fires. To report an open burning concern or inquire for additional information, please call the Coastal Fire Centre at 250-951-4209.
A map of the Natural Resource Districts is available at https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/forestry/managing-our-forest-resources/ministry-of-forests-lands-and-natural-resource-operations-region-district-contacts.

Category 2 and Category 3 fires will remain prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre.

Other areas in the Coastal Fire Centre that are affected by the rescinding of this prohibition are:
· Chilliwack Natural Resource District,
· Sea to Sky Natural Resource District; and
· The portion of the Central Coast Regional District that falls within the North Island Central Coast Resource District.
