Area D Stormwater Collection System & Drone Activity

The SRD is moving ahead with the design of the Area D Stormwater Collection System, a project focused on improving stormwater management and reducing localized flooding, surface ponding, and runoff issues.

Here’s What You Need to Know about the Area D Stormwater Collection System Project.

  • The Strathcona Regional District is moving forward with the design of the Area D Stormwater Collection System Project, which aims to provide a formal stormwater management system to three catchment areas (Catchment C, Catchment E, and Oyster River Rest Area) within Electoral Area D to address localized flooding, surface ponding, and runoff related issues.

  • To complete this project, drone operations will occur between February 3rd and February 5th to capture aerial photography of three areas where the stormwater system is planned to be installed. This will involve work on:
    • Catchment C: Engles Road, Stuart Place, Sutil Road, and Mitlenatch Drive between Redonda Way and Island Highway,
    • Catchment E: McGimpsey Road, Marina Road, Meriwood Road, Castle Drive, and Wavecrest Road between 220 McGimpsey Road and Island Highway,
    • Oyster River Rest Area: Island Highway between 4323 Island Highway and Oyster Garden Road.

This letter is to advise you that the Strathcona Regional District (SRD) will be working with ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. to complete aerial photography along the proposed corridors of the upcoming stormwater system. The drone operator has all appropriate certifications and pre-flight requirements fulfilled with the regulators.

February 3rd to February 5th – The crew will begin setting up GPS and ground control targets. You can expect to see people working in the area. Drone operations will then occur between the 3rd and 5th weather permitting.

How will this affect me?

  • You can expect to see personnel in the area on the dates mentioned above.

What is next?

  • Once the aerial photography has been completed, SRD and ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. will continue progressing the design of the planned stormwater system. You can expect to receive further communication from the SRD once design is finalized.
