SRD NEWS | Call for Artists: Emergency Services Public Art Projects
The SRD is seeking artist submissions for two public art projects that support community awareness and resilience through creative expression. Submissions deadline: July 28, 2025
(Campbell River, BC) – The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is seeking artist submissions for two public art projects that support community awareness and resilience through creative expression. This project is fully funded through the Disaster Risk Reduction / Climate Adaptation grant funding stream in order to enhance community identify and foster social connection.
Project 1: Walters Island Tsunami Wave Sculpture
Artists are invited to design, supply, and install a sculpture that represents a tsunami wave. The sculpture will be located near the tsunami evacuation map by the government wharf (post office) on Walters Island. The goal of the installation is to draw attention to the map and encourage public engagement with emergency preparedness information.
Project 2: Cortes Island Water Tank Murals
Artists are invited to create mural designs that reflect climate adaptation, inspiring ingenuity, hope, and community conversation. The murals will be painted on four water tanks at the following locations:
- Mansons Landing Firehall (2 tanks)
- Sutil Road (2 tanks)
How to Submit:
Artists may submit their proposals:

- By mail or in person: Strathcona Regional District, 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, BC V9W 7Z8
Submissions must include:
- A visual rendering of the proposed artwork
- A written description explaining how the work meets the project criteria
Deadline for submissions: Monday, July 28, 2025, at 4:00 PM.
A selection committee made up of community representatives will review eligible submissions and final approval will be made by the Regional Board. Selected artists will be notified by August 21, 2025. All art projects must be completed and installed by January 31, 2026.
