The SRD Advising Northern Area D Water System

The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) and the City of Campbell River are working together to notify residents of a watermain repair.

Campbell River, BC – The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) and the City of Campbell River are working together to notify residents of a watermain repair and significantly reduced water flow for Northern Area D Water System and City residents living on Finch Road. The repair is scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m., Sunday, July 22 and may affect water availability through to Monday morning. Residents are asked to avoid all non-essential water use during this period.

The leak is located in a City-owned stretch of the watermain and supplies the majority of water to Northern Area D Water System users and residents on Finch Road. The repair has been scheduled to be completed overnight to help minimize the potential impact on water users in Area D.

“The City is hopeful that the repair can be made without interrupting water flow, but they won’t be able to confirm that until they open up the ground on Sunday night. If it requires a more complex repair, the work could continue into Monday morning and water service to Northern Area D Water System users and City residents living on Finch Road could be impacted,” says SRD CAO David Leitch. “The City has informed us that the leaking watermain requires urgent repair, so we are happy to be able to have crews attend to the repair so quickly.”

The SRD is asking residents to reduce water consumption and avoid all non-essential water use. This includes outdoor lawn sprinkling and watering beginning at 9:00 p.m. this Sunday until services are fully restored.

“The watermain in question supplies approximately two-thirds of the Northern Area D Water. The leak is upstream from the Northern Area D Water System meter which means that residents will not be billed for the leakage and the repair will be completed by the City, at no cost to Northern Area D Water System users,” says SRD Environmental Services Coordinator Jenny Brunn.

If you have any questions, please contact the SRD office at 250 830 6700. Flyers will be placed around Area D notifying of the potential shutdown, and notices will be posted the SRD website, Facebook page and community bulletin boards.
