September 30th – National Day of Truth & Reconciliation
The SRD will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Monday, September 30, in alignment with the federal observance.
Campbell River, BC—The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Monday, September 30, in alignment with the federal observance. The SRD board and staff are committed to continuous learning and building meaningful relationships with the Indigenous Peoples of this region as we work toward reconciliation.
The federal government designated this day to honour the survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and their families and communities. The day is a time to reflect on the painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools in Canada.
In recognition of this day, the Strathcona Regional District Corporate Office at 990 Cedar St. in Campbell River will be closed on Monday, September 30.
Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex will also minimize operations on September 30 and host family events in the afternoon.
- Public Swim, Everyone Welcome Skate & Pond Hockey from 1:30 pm to 4:30
- The arena will remain open for all pre-booked user groups
- Swim Lessons are cancelled
The SRD encourages employees and the wider community to observe this important day, whether through personal reflection, education, participating in awareness activities in your community, or wearing orange to raise awareness that ‘Every Child Matters.’
